Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, which deployed four appliances and specialist high-reach vehicles, says that crews are still battling to bring the Blairinn Industrial Estate blaze under control today. Firefighters are continuing to battle a huge blaze at an industrial estate in Cumbernauld that left six men in hospital. Emergency services were called to Mid Road in the Blairinn Industrial Estate on Tuesday, April 1, at around 2.30 pm, following reports of a fire. Six men, aged between 20 and 66, were rushed from the scene to the hospital. It is understood that none of the injuries are being described as life-threatening. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, which deployed four appliances and specialist high-reach vehicles, says that fire crews are still battling to bring the blaze under control. Two appliances and two height vehicles remain at the scene this morning as part of the effort. We previously reported how a number of neighbouring buildings have been evacuated due to the incident. Residents were also told to avoid the area, stay indoors, and keep their windows closed. At its peak, plumes of thick black smoke could be seen as far as Larkhall. Dramatic drone footage showed bright orange flames emerging from the roof of the building. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.35 pm on Tuesday, 1 April, to reports of a building fire at 60 Mid Road, Blairlinn Industrial Estate, Cumbernauld. “Operations Control initially mobilised two appliances to the scene and on arrival, firefighters found one single-storey building well alight.
“A further four appliances, two high-reach appliances and specialist resources, were mobilised to support firefighting crews. Six casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. “Two appliances, two high-reach appliances, and a firefighting crew still remain on scene this morning, Wednesday 2 April, as they continue to control the fire. A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service added: "We received a call at 14:55 to attend an incident at Blairlinn Industrial Estate, Cumbernauld. Six ambulances, three special operations response teams (SORT), a paramedic response unit, a trauma team, and a resuscitation rapid response unit (3RU) were dispatched to the scene. "Five patients were transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and one patient was transported to University Hospital Monklands.” Sergeant Kevin Anderson said: “A multi-agency response remains ongoing, and we continue to ask members of the public to avoid the area at this time. “The fire is contained within the industrial premises. However, we would continue to ask residents in the Greenfaulds area to keep their windows and doors closed and to stay indoors due to the smoke. “An investigation will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of the fire.”
