A 54-year-old woman died in the intensive care unit of the Pyrgos Hospital early Saturday morning, with alarming symptoms suggestive of meningitis. The woman by Friday afternoon showed the first symptoms and an immediate high fever. The event alarmed her family and they immediately took her to the hospital. Her health deterioration was immediate and doctors intubated her and took her to the Intensive Care Unit for treatment, where she died after a few hours. According to information from ilialive.gr, a sample examined by the microbiology laboratory showed that it is a strain of meningococcus, which along with the other symptoms refers to meningitis. In any case, doctors will also wait for the results of the sample culture to have a clear picture. The EODY has been informed and the health authorities of Patras, who are monitoring the situation. The tracing of the woman’s contacts has already begun. Colleagues from the work of the unfortunate woman have already been informed and have received preventive medication. The director of the Clinic of Infectious Diseases of the General Hospital of Patras in Rio, Professor of Pathology – Infectious Diseases Markos Maragos spoke to ilialive.gr about the case, which is being investigated by the health authorities.
